As you can guess from our name, we at Mid Carolina Diesel specialize in diesel engines, and we know how to identify and repair any issue you may be having with yours. Our goal is to help you get the best possible performance from your engine, and the best way to do that is to get problems taken care of early on. In this article, we’ll go over a few ways to tell if you need diesel engine repair–if you notice any of the following issues with your engine, we encourage you to give us a call.
- Your Engine Needs More Oil. One sign that you need diesel engine repair is your engine starting to need more oil than usual in order to run properly. Increased oil consumption often becomes necessary when the piston rings wear out, which allows diesel fuel to slip past the rings and into the engine crankcase where it can do serious damage.
- You Hear Knocking Sounds. Another way to tell if you need diesel engine repair is to pay attention to the sounds it makes–if you start to hear any knocking sounds and can’t identify what’s making them, we recommend that you have your engine looked at.
- Your Engine Generates More Exhaust Smoke. A third way to determine whether you need diesel engine repair is to keep an eye on how much exhaust smoke you are generating. If you find that your engine is generating more exhaust than usual, or just making an excessive amount of smoke, something is probably wrong.
